As one of the oldest family-run luxury knitting companies based in the Scottish Borders, William Lockie is steeped in history and tradition. "Lockies, as they are affectionately called, date back to 1874 and are known for making the softest, finest, highest quality and most luxurious knitwear in the world. The secret lies in the use of the highest quality. The quality of the raw materials paired with the precision of their manufacture - the manufacture of knitwear like no other. Located in Hawick on the banks of the river Teviot, the Lockies are proud to be a family-run business with skilled workers from the same local families they have run for generations.

Cashmere, the so-called "fibre of kings", is incomparable in terms of luxury, warmth, softness and durability. The beginnings of cashmere are modest. Mountain goats from the ice-cold climates of China and Mongolia breed a fluffy undercoat of soft shorthair to protect themselves from winter temperatures as low as -40°c. This undercoat is cashmere. The fiber is then carefully combed by the goats of nomadic tribesmen. The change is taking place in Scotland, where the waters are soft and where more than a century of wisdom and understanding of this precious natural fibre is transformed into pure luxury.

WILLIAM LOCKIE has always been passionate about using only the finest and highest quality natural wool yarns. The women's and men's knitwear made of the best natural fibres represent an extraordinary symbiosis of authentic natural product and luxury. Perfection is the law here. Only the finest fibres are processed into a wonderfully soft knitted product in our own production facility with the help of the particularly soft Scottish water. The traditional know-how as well as a high degree of craftsmanship are skillfully combined with the most modern technology, so that fit and wearing comfort can be guaranteed with the highest precision. Great importance is attached to sustainability.
In the traditional Scottish production, which is still led by the owner family with passion, the following noble natural yarns are processed: Cashmere, Geelong, Lambswool, Merino, natural Camelhair and also dyed. The variety of shapes ranges from classic British to fashionable designer looks. A total of approx. 100 colours are available for all styles.

To produce soft, fine and luxurious cashmere knitwear, WILLIAM LOCKIE accepts only the most precious fibres of at least 34 mm length and maximum thickness of 16.5 microns. This supple silky quality is only provided by the undercoat of the cashmere goats from the high mountains of Inner Mongolia, which is combed out once a year. A cashmere pullover requires the undercoat of at least 3 cashmere goats. WILLIAM LOCKIE's cashmere knitwear is super fine, light as a feather, fluffy, soft and wonderfully warm, and is sought after worldwide.

30gg cashmere. WILLIAM LOCKIE uses only the very best cashmere yarn quality for its 30gg cashmere products. The cashmere yarn is spun into 1/80 cashmere yarn and then processed in 3 threads. The knitting machines can only work very slowly so that fine knitwear can be produced. William Lockie is the only company in the UK that can knit such a fine cashmere yarn.

WILLIAM LOCKIE obtains Lambswool from South Australia from the Pedigree sheep, which are bred there because of the excellent quality of their wool and are known worldwide for it. The lambs are sheared for the first time at the age of 7 months, then this super soft wool is spun and dyed in various colours. WILLIAM LOCKIE knits this wool very tightly so that it neither tends to pilling nor loses its shape. We use the following Lambswool yarns: Super Geelong (19.5 micron), Merino extra fine (20 micron) and Lambswool (20.5 micron) as well as 30 gg Merino.

For the 30gg Merino products, WILLIAM LOCKIE uses the original Wish® merino yarn from Loro Piana at an extremely attractive price. This very fine merino yarn (160's) has 14.5 micron and is therefore particularly soft and light. In addition, it shows a slightly shimmering color brilliance.

WILLIAM LOCKIE uses camel hair from the 2-humped Bactrian camel bred in the Gobi Desert. The camel hair wool that we use for our knitwear is obtained exclusively from the fine, soft undercoat that is collected by hand once a year when the camels lose their winter coat at the end of spring. The camel hair fibres are between 17 and 21 microns strong and therefore very durable and low in pilling. Camel hair is a 100% natural product and in its undyed state breathable and very warm as well as anti-allergic.

WILLIAM LOCKIE recommends washing knitwear in the wool washing programme (max. 30°!) at least after every 4th - 6th wear. Please turn to the left first, fill the drum only half full and spin at low speed. Please use a very good liquid wool care product (here in the shop). After washing, lay flat on a towel, pull into shape lying down and let dry. After drying you can iron the knitted product from the left to a low temperature.
If pilling does develop, you can shave it off after washing with the high-quality wool care razor (here in the shop).

William Lockie
