Alpaca Wool

Alpaca wool comes from the alpaca and is characterized by its very fine, soft and silky shiny wool. Not without reason it is traded as one of the highest quality twists in the world. The alpacas are partially sheared every one to two years, with one shearing yielding up to 6kg of wool per animal. However, only about half of the fibers are usable and are processed further.

Due to the very tight scale structure of alpaca wool, there is no scratchy feeling, as is common with other types of wool. Similar to sheep's wool, alpaca wool is hollow on the inside, giving garments thermodynamic properties. In winter, it stores its own body heat, and in summer, it releases heat and moisture. Body odors are also not a problem, as the wool's own molecules neutralize odors.

Alpaca wool is dirt-repellent, tear-resistant and hard-wearing and is popular with allergy sufferers for pillows and comforters.
