Flanell

Flannel is quite an old fabric. Flannel-like fabrics were woven by the English as early as the 16th century. However, the soft and cosy structure that we know from this popular fabric today has only existed since the 20th century, when cotton and silk began to be added to the fabric. A distinction is made between wool and cotton flannel. Wool flannel is mainly woven in body weave, whereas cotton flannel can be woven in both plain weave and body weave. Another difference is that cotton flannel gets its special properties by brushing and wool flannel by fulling, but these are identical in both forms. This process felts the fabrics and creates small air chambers between the individual fibres. The result is that the fabric stores heat particularly well, can absorb liquids well and is super soft and cosy against the skin.

The care of flannel is very uncomplicated. Most flannel fabrics can be washed at 40 degrees, but flannel shirts and flannel blouses made of 100% cotton should not be washed at more than 30 degrees in the washing machine. To be on the safe side, you should always check the washing instructions.
