Lyocell

Lyocell is an industrially produced fibre obtained from cellulose, the main component of plant cell walls. The cellulose is extracted from wood and mixed with a non-toxic solvent and water in a stirred tank. After a few more processes that take place in the kettle, a fibre is produced that can now be treated and processed in many ways. Thanks to the environmentally friendly solvents used during the process, Lyocell is much less harmful to the environment than viscose, for example.

The fibre can be found in many products. It is used, for example, in the manufacture of denim, blouse fabrics, underwear, functional textiles from the sports sector, for workwear or even bed linen. It is often processed in combination with other fibres, such as cotton or viscose (Modal).

Since Lyocell is a modified cellulose fibre, it is even biodegradable by microorganisms.
