Mulesing
Mulesing is the term used to describe a method widely used in Australia and New Zealand to remove "excess" skin around the tail of the sheep to prevent infestation by fly maggots. This procedure is performed without anaesthetic or painkillers and is considered to be cruelty to animals.
The Glerups wool is guaranteed mulesing free.
Seldom uses wool that is guaranteed mulesing free, as they source wool exclusively from Patagonia and South America. The fly maggot is not found in these regions.
William Lockie & Company Ltd declare and confirm that all products which they distribute are knitted by her company in Hawick, Scotland. That all wool fibre used in the production of yarns, which are subsequently used to produce their products, are sourced from suppliers that do not allow the practice of mulesing sheep.
Furthermore, they confirm that we uphold, with our yarn and wool suppliers, the Farm Animal Welfare Council's "Five Freedoms" set out below.
L. Freedom from Hunger and Thirst
