Original is a timeless, versatile leather with a naturally shiny surface that matches any outfit. It is therefore not surprising that this leather has been a favourite for many years. Original is a buffed leather and is made in Holland and Italy from European cattle hides.

Modern cards such as public transport cards, credit cards and access cards contain a chip and an antenna for mobile communication. These RFID (Radio-Frequency IDentification) or NFC (Near Field Communication) cards offer greater convenience but also higher risks: they can be read, activated or cloned from a distance of one metre without you noticing. Our Cardprotector, the aluminium core of all our wallets, protects your cards from unwanted mobile communication.
Thanks to our patented mechanism and the Cardprotector's aluminium casing, your cards are even protected during use. If you extend the cards only a little way, the signal sensitivity is considerably reduced, but sufficient for communication over a short distance. This is how you prevent digital pickpockets from accessing your cards.
The Cardprotector was launched in 2009, but our Secrid journey started more than a decade earlier. In the 1990s, we were running an advertising agency called Spirid when we realised that the contents of our pockets were changing with the introduction of the first electronic payment systems in the Netherlands. In 1997, when cash was slowly being replaced by cards, we created our first minimalist wallet: the Secrid Bodycard.
Design work for clients like ING, Maxi Cosi and Quooker continued to be our professional focus, but we kept Secrid in the back of our minds as we watched the content of our wallets change more and more in the early 2000s. As smartphones connected us to the world, virtually all important documents shrank to pocket size. We carried less with us, but what we carried was worth more to us than ever before.
In 2008, the financial crisis shook the whole of Europe and the orders from our clients became fewer. After 25 years of living and working together as partners, we felt that this was the right moment to realise our dream and build our own brand. We had a vision: we wanted to revolutionise the way people look at their bag contents. So Secrid transformed from a side project to our main focus.
Since the start of our Secrid journey 20 years ago, our fashion and product design experiences have merged more and more, allowing us to create everyday accessories in a bag format, here in the Netherlands. We are honoured by the awards we have won, but the even greater honour for us is the increased number of satisfied Secrid fans over the years. Today, our products can be found in more than 5,000 selected shops around the world, while we work together with our three children and almost 100 employees in a renovated industrial hall that serves as our family's home and creative hub for new services and pocket-sized products.
