Seldom Strick - high-quality jumpers to feel good with from the Westerwald.
At Seldom, the knitwear specialist from Horhausen, Westerwald, Germany, everything simply fits together. The individually developed design of pullovers, cardigans, hoodies and polo shirts is supported and made visible by the "seamless knitting process", which enables seamless knitting, in combination with the palletising technique. High-quality Italian yarns combined with GOTS-certified merino wool from Patagonia, South America, not only make the Seldom pullover men's and women's jumpers look valuable, but also make them a tactile pleasure because they feel so good. They are jumpers, short-sleeved or long-sleeved and other pieces in anthracite, dark brown, olive and other colours to fall in love with and feel good in.
What is so special about seamless knitting?
The Anglo-Saxon term seamless simply means "seamless". But what does that have to do with knitting processes and knitting techniques? The example of knitwear explains it well. In the conventional process, the body and the two sleeves are knitted separately and the three parts are then sewn together to form the final product. The seamless knitting technique is much more elegant, because there is no need for sewing to finish the knitted jumper. The three parts are knitted from the bottom to the top, i.e. from the waistband, as three separate "tubes" with three separate threads, and where the sleeves merge into the body, the middle thread system takes over, so to speak, to finish the product. This complex technique requires special knowledge and a lot of practical experience, which our knitting specialists possess to a high degree. The process, which was developed by us in 2010, involves a combination of the seamless production process with the so-called plating technique. In principle, two differently coloured thread systems are used in the production process, so that a different colour impression is created on the front and back. One colour dominates on each side, but the colour of the other yarn shimmers through a little - as desired - so that a different interesting mixed colour, a melange, is created on each side of the knitted piece.
GOTS is more than just an organic label
Most of the high-quality Italian yarns we use, spun from our merino wool from Patagonia, are GOTS certified and thus comply with the Global Organic Textile Standard. The conditions that have to be proven in order to obtain the seal also refer to minimum social standards that benefit the producers, i.e. the sheep farmers in Patagonia. The seal is only awarded for one year at a time. Every year, the fulfilment of the criteria must be proven again. GOTS is thus an internationally recognised socio-ecological seal and is awarded by Global Standard gemeinnützige GmbH. The seal covers the entire production chain up to the finished merino textile. Our GOTS-certified Seldom jumpers, branded jumpers, Seldom women's jumpers and accessories are not only Made in Germany, but also ensure sustainable production along the entire supply chain up to the producers and their sheep, in compliance with socio-ecological standards.
The most exclusive men's jumpers are made from cashmere wool
Our most exclusive pieces, the Mingus and Ruven men's jumpers, are made from 100 percent cashmere. Unlike merino, the wool does not come from sheep, but from the cashmere goat. Obtaining the wool is extremely laborious because the process requires a lot of manual labour and the goats only provide about 200 grams of wool per year, while a merino sheep "produces" more than ten times that amount of virgin wool. Mingus is a men's hooded jacket in dark blue with beige, made to measure on request. Ruven is a men's round neck jumper in the colours blue, grey, light blue or light grey. It is only available in size "S".
Care instructions for garments made of cashmere wool and merino yarn
Merino and cashmere have many outstanding properties in common. Both fibres are one hundred percent natural products. The garments are not very susceptible to dirt, are very breathable, regulate warmth well, and they never become statically charged. Both fibres have a pleasant feel and retain their shape if a few tips are followed. Unpleasant odours can usually be eliminated by extensive airing. When washing jumpers made of merino wool, please only use a liquid wool detergent at 30 degrees (wool programme). Garments made of cashmere should only be washed carefully by hand in cold water. To dry, lay the garments out horizontally and under no circumstances hang them on a hanger so that the garment does not warp. If you wish to iron the valuable piece, this should be done when it is well dried with little pressure but plenty of steam.
